Welkom bij BAAKO! Wij zijn een verenigde groep in Nederland die streven naar een inclusieve samenleving waarin iedereen, ongeacht achtergrond, zich thuis voelt. Gedreven door liefde en compassie werken we aan het behouden en delen van cultureel erfgoed, terwijl we nieuwe oplossingen ontwikkelen voor lang bestaande uitdagingen. About us
BAAKO, meaning "unity" in Twi, was founded by young adults from diverse backgrounds in Amsterdam. We strive for a just, inclusive, and prosperous society, focusing on the Afro-community. Since the 1970s, challenges in education, employment, and social equality have persisted, and we develop new strategies to address them. Our vision is to honor cultural heritage while bridging cultures within Dutch society. The BAAKO team consists of community builders with deep knowledge and experience in both Dutch and diverse cultural backgrounds.
BAAKO, wat "eenheid" betekent in het Twi, is opgericht door jongvolwassenen met diverse achtergronden in Amsterdam. Wij streven naar een rechtvaardige, inclusieve en welvarende samenleving, met een focus op de Afro-gemeenschap. Sinds de jaren ’70 blijven uitdagingen in onderwijs, werk en sociale gelijkheid bestaan, en wij ontwikkelen nieuwe strategieën om deze aan te pakken. Onze visie is cultureel erfgoed eren en culturen verbinden binnen de Nederlandse samenleving. Het BAAKO-team bestaat uit gemeenschapsbouwers met brede kennis en ervaring in zowel de Nederlandse als diverse culturele achtergronden.
Our work
BAAKO is actively engaged in addressing the socio-economic and cultural challenges of the Netherlands focusing on issues such as poverty, education, unemployment, and social inequality. Our key projects include empowering local communities through entrepreneurship, creating educational support programs to combat learning disparities, and advocating for intercultural communication in policy-making. We also work to reduce the impact of gentrification, support health access for all, and foster local leadership within the community.
BAAKO zet zich actief in voor het aanpakken van de sociaal-economische en culturele uitdagingen van Nederland, met de focus op problemen zoals armoede, onderwijs, werkloosheid en sociale ongelijkheid. Onze belangrijkste projecten omvatten het versterken van lokale gemeenschappen door ondernemerschap te bevorderen, het creëren van onderwijsondersteuningsprogramma's om leerachterstanden te bestrijden en het pleiten voor interculturele communicatie in beleidsvorming. Daarnaast werken we aan het verminderen van de impact van gentrificatie, ondersteunen we de toegang tot gezondheidszorg voor iedereen en bevorderen we lokaal leiderschap binnen de gemeenschap.
